Nest Smoke Alarms Recalled

A recall has been issued for the Nest Protect: Smoke + CO Alarm, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday. The reported hazard is that “activity near the product during a fire can prevent the alarm from immediately sounding when the Nest Wave feature is enabled.”

The fix for the problem is “an automatic electronic update that disables the Nest Wave feature and is delivered automatically to devices connected wirelessly to the Internet and linked to a Nest account.”

See the CPSC recall page for more information.

Also Wednesday, Nest CEO Tony Fadell assured customers that Nest- acquired earlier this year by Google- has no plans to put ads on its products. Fadell issued a statement to Recode that Nest will not be doing it, despite an SEC filing by Google.
