Louie Blumkin, the longtime chief of Nebraska Furniture Mart and the son of founder
Rose "Mrs. B" Blumkin, died this week at the age of 93, the company announced Thursday. Blumkin worked for the company for more than 75 years.
A World War II veteran, Blumkin ran Nebraska Furniture Mart upon returning from the front in 1945. He supervised the company through its sale to Berkshire Hathaway in 1983, partnering thereafter with Warren Buffett; his sons Ron and Irv run the company today.
An avid philanthropist, Blumkin is survived by his wife, three sons, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Blumkin's family has requested donations to the Rose Theater in Omaha or the University of Nebraska Foundation and Nebraska Neuroscience Alliance.
