Nintendo Denies HD Wii on the Way
October 2008
Despite rumors that had spread online for the past week, Nintendo’s U.S. chief is denying that a second-generation, high-definition Nintendo Wii console is on the way.
In an interview with reporter Dean Takahashi of the venture-capital Web site VentureBeat.com, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime dismissed rumors of a new Wii in 2011 as “pure rumor and speculation.” He also denied that a prototype of the Wii successor had been shown to the industry.
Fils-Aime also discussed the rollout strategy for the new Nintendo DSi portable console, and said Nintendo has no plans to follow Microsoft’s lead with a Wii price cut.
