Over Half of U.S. Mobile Subscribers Have Smartphones

As of March, over 50 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers owned smartphones, while Android holds just under 50 percent of market share. That’s according to a Nielsen Wire survey called “America’s New Mobile Majority.”

Android has 48.5 percent of the installed smartphone market, followed by Apple (32 percent) and RIM (11.6 percent). Windows’ previous generation Windows Mobile has 4.1 percent while the newer Windows Phone has 1.7 percent.

The survey also found that 50.9 percent of female subscribers had smartphones, compared to 50.1 percent of men.
