Pioneer Will Premiere Its First AppRadio Hackathon at 2012 SEMA Show

Pioneer Electronics recently announced that it will host its first AppRadio Hackathon at the 2012 Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, taking place on Tuesday, October 30 and ending on Friday, November 2.
The Hackathon is designed to promote the development of unique car apps to be compatible with Pioneer’s AppRadio, an in-dash technology that controls apps from its touchscreen. Pioneer is offering over $50,000 in cash and prizes to be awarded to the best apps developed in three categories.

The categories include: Voice Interface Social Networking Automotive App (concepts for safe in-vehicle use of social netowrking sites); Location-Based Services (LBS) App (concepts for geo-fenced or geo-tagged automotive location based services); and SEMA Member automotive accessory application (concepts that will incorporate one or more SEMA Show 2012 exhibitor’s technology).

Backed by the SEMA organization, the competition will take place in a 4,000 square foot area in South Hall, Upper Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center (booth#33000). Throughout the Hackathon, competitors will have access to the Pioneer staff, who will answer developers’ questions. Coverage of the event will be shared on the Pioneer Hackathon website (
