The HomeShare system, for example, does not require a rack solution. The entertainment and intercom system delivers up to 16 zones of entertainment, including four zones of HD video, over standard CAT5e wiring. The system includes a keypad, distribution panel, A/V wallport, local audio wallport, AC1 power supply, and a media wallport for iPod docking. Estimated price with installation is between $1,000 and $2,000 per room.
Sony is marketing the system, available early next year to ES dealers, along with its line of ES receivers, said Steve Brauner, Sony’s manager of product marketing for consumer systems and applications. Dealer programs around the HomeShare and NHS systems will include demo units, marketing materials and a variety of training options, Brauner added.
“There are so many opportunities to do so much more with the TV” as the base of a home entertainment and whole-home control and automation solution, Flanner said. “When people actually see what they can do, they love it. And those solutions are still not plug-and-play, which is good for us.”
