RIM Profit Surges

The third quarter profit of BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) jumped 45 percent, largely on the strength of sales for its BlackBerry Torch smartphone.

The profit reached $911.1 million in the quarter, according to Reuters. Growth was reportedly strong in emerging markets.

The company said that it has sold 14.2 million BlackBerry smartphones in the quarter, although it did not say what percentage of those were the Torch.
