Retail Sales Jumped 1.7 Percent in March

Retail sales in March rose 1.7 percent, far above analyst expectations, according to the monthly measure of 25 retailers by Thomson Reuters.

A decline of as much as 0.7 percent had been expected, due in part to weather and the timing of the Easter holiday. It represents the 19th straight month of gains and, following last week’s positive unemployment numbers, another piece of economic good news.
