Apple Could Market Point-of-Sale System

Apple’s new iPod Touch-based point-of-sale system, launched earlier this year in Apple Retail Store locations, has been such a success that other retailers are interested in using it as well. According to the ifo Apple Store Web site, Apple has been “deluged with inquiries” about the iPod POS system.

Citing insiders at the company, the site also reported that while Apple was originally uninterested in marketing the proprietary system, the interest has been so strong that the company has begun collecting information about potential partners.

The system, rather than a standard cash register, entails store employees walking around the store and ringing up purchases directly through the iPod Touch device.
