In an indication that even Apple is becoming to have trouble in the down economy, the company posted an overall 1 percent loss in November in computer sales from the year before, while the overall industry posted a 2 percent gain.

That's according to research released this week by NPD Group, and cited by the Wall Street Journal.

Part of the difference, according to NPD, was a huge drop in sales of desktop computers; Apple, however, introduced only new laptops in recent months, and its laptop growth was higher than that of its rivals.

In October, when the MacBooks were newer, the company posted a 28 percent gain over the same month the year before. The November drop was attributed to the weakening economy, the emergence of the Netbook category and the arrival of several super-low-priced Windows PCs.
