In true New York fashion, Samsung rolled out its Galaxy S 4 Thursday night during a packed event at Radio City Music Hall that featured a full orchestra, Broadway style skits, a tap-dancing child and, of course, the new smartphone.

“We are always listening to people from around the world for what they really want,” said J.K. Shin, head of Samsung’s mobile communications, during the opening remarks.

Samsung must have done a lot of listening to consumers and the market because the S 4 is pack with plenty of new features and upgrades. Here’s a rundown of some of the smarphone’s highlights.

-       Camera
Ryan Bidan, director of product marketing for Samsung’s Telecommunications Division, who took over the show after Shin left the stage, spent most of the presentation extolling the S 4’s camera features.  The main (rear) camera has 13 megapixels, while the front 2 MP camera shoots full HD video.

The Dual Camera function allows simultaneous use of both cameras so that the shooter can also be captured in the image. Users can select eight different ways to combine the photos. The smartphone’s 12 shooting modes include Drama Shot, which shows the action captured in a series of frames in one continuous time-lapse. Sound & Shot captures sound along with the still image.

The new Story Album function automatically gathers and sorts images according to the timeline, geo-tagging, or a specific event to create a photo album, which can be ordered and delivered through Samsung’s partnership with Blurb.

-       Display
Users can view all of their photos and videos on the 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, made from Corning's Gorilla Glass 3.

-       Carriers
The Galaxy S 4 will ship in April in 3G and 4G LTE versions through all major carriers. Pricing wasn’t announced.

-       Shared Connections
With the Group Play function, users can share music, photos, documents and games with others, without a Wi-Fi or cellular signal. The Share Music option allows users to play the same song on multiple phones at the same time. S Translator provides instant text or voice translation for email, text message and ChatON.

-       Control
