Samsung Shows First Tizen Smartphone

Samsung on Monday unveiled the Samsung Z, the first smartphone based on the company’s own Tizen operating system.

The Z sports a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display and a 2.3 GHz Quad-core processor.

According to a press release, the phone- which eschews Android- will arrive in Russia in the third quarter of this year, with “more markets” to follow. There’s no word yet on a U.S release.

In a clear attempt to compete with Apple’s World Wide Developers’ Conference, Samsung is holding a Tizen Developer Conference this week in San Francisco.
