Samsung Unveils Simband, Other Health Moves
Samsung Wednesday announced the launch of a “major digital health initiative,” including both hardware and software. The event was held at the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco.
The major hardware component is the Simband, described by the company as “an open hardware reference design for wearable technology, capable of integrating the most advanced sensing technologies in the world.” The Simband is described as a reference design for Samsung and other manufacturers, which will not be sold commercially on its own.
Samsung also announced the Samsung Architecture for Multimodal Interactions, described as ” a cloud-based open software platform capable of bringing together diverse data from a variety of sources for analysis.”
And finally, the company unveiled the Samsung Digital Health Challenge, described as “a $50 million investment fund dedicated to innovative start-ups and technologies in the digital health area.”
