SOL REPUBLIC Comments on Soul Electronics Injunction
Headphone manufacturer SOL REPUBLIC Wednesday issued a statement defending itself against an injunction recently sought by rival Signeo, the maker of the Soul by Ludacris line. The statement, titled "We Are SOL REPUBLIC- We Will Not Be Silenced," and carried out on the new We Are SOL REPUBLIC website, is a supplement to the company's legal fight.
The injunction (Signeo USA. LLC et al v. SOL Republic, Inc,), which alleges that SOL REPUBLIC's products infringe on Soul's name, seeks a ceasing of shipments of SOL REPUBLIC's products. Following federal trademark infringement litigation initiated in December, the injunction was filed Jan. 31 in federal court, in the Northern District of California.
According to a statement issued by SOL REPUBLIC, the company established its name, website and Facebook page prior to its awareness of the existence of Soul by Ludacris. Soul by Ludacris and SOL REPUBLIC, both of which debuted headphone products in 2011, have trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, with SOL REPUBLIC's having been granted after that of Soul by Ludacris.
