Sony Defends Active 3D
Sony is defending its 3D TV products, and active-shutter glasses-based technology in general, in reaction to a recent LG announcement that users prefer its passive-glasses approach.
In a blog post on Sony's official site, Mike Abary, the senior vice president of Sony Electronics Home Division, defended Sony's approach. He noted that according to a recent NPD survey, consumers who enter a store select active-shutter-based TV six times more often than they select passive technology.
"Yes, TVs with passive 3D glasses are less expensive – but you get what you pay for," Abary wrote. "The lower cost directly translates to lower performance and the fact of the matter is that active 3D technology provides a bright and clear image that cannot be achieved with a passive set."
