Sony and Sharp have announced plans to launch a joint venture for LCD panel production. The Sharp Display Products Corp., which will be owned on a 66/34 basis by Sharp and Sony, respectively, will officially launch April 1, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The venture will likely manufacture its first panels in March of 2010, with most production taking place at a new plant in Western Japan.

the reason of sharp sony joint venture is samsung could not reach the sony quality line. sharp has the best technology when it comes to LCD flat panel. the reason of sony samsung joint venture was an exchange of the low cost korean labor, samsung will receive an advance technology from sony.
