Super Bowl Drives TV Sales

Twenty-two percent of HDTV owners in the U.S. purchased their sets in order to watch the Super Bowl, according to the Consumer Electronics Association's  Sports and Technology Study. 

“Sports events, namely the Super Bowl, continue to drive significant TV sales every year,” Kevin Tillmann, senior research analyst, CEA, said as part of the announcement.

“In fact, the impact of these sports events on consumer electronic sales is even higher when factoring in TV accessories and premium broadcast services."

The full survey, from CEA Market Research, arrives in March. 

Meanwhile, an NPD Group survey released this week found that Super Bowl week last year was the third biggest week for TV sales, after Black Friday and the final week before Christmas.
