Panasonic, under its Panasonic Communications Co. of North America (PCCNA) division, will begin selling at the end of this month a 2009 cordless phone model range that carries DECT 6.0 technology across the entire lineup, said Erica Martinez, product manager.

DECT 6.0 is an interference-reducing, range-extending technology that also helps increase battery life on the phones.

The Energy Star-certified 6400 and 7400 series carry an array of product features exclusive to Panasonic, which “add cell phone convenience to cordless,” she said.  Martinez also added that Panasonic’s lineup includes a strong selection of SKUs in the higher end of the category, making the brand “strong in the $99- and-up market slot.”

On the 6400 range, Talking Caller ID states the identity of the caller so the owner doesn’t have to look at the phone before deciding to answer it. Call Block, another feature unique to Panasonic that carries over from the 2008 range, allows the owner to create a “call block” list that sends a busy signal to unwanted callers added to the list.  Silent Mode allows programming of each handset to ring or remain silent at specific times of day.

The 7400 series carries these features and adds Choice Mail, a feature that lets the person checking voicemails to cherry-pick which to listen to without having to go through the list and listen serially to each message. It also has an adjustable font sizing feature that lets the user enlarge the type of an entry for better legibility.  The phones also comply with the Telecommunications Industry Association’s TIA-1083 standard, an interference-reduction technology that makes the handsets compatible with hearing aids.

Another Panasonic system due out soon, the KX-TG1062M single-line digital cordless answering system with two handsets, offers functionality through the base unit even when there is a power outage.

Panasonic, said Martinez, plans to make additional model announcements geared to the needs of the high-end residential market around the time of the CEDIA Expo this fall.

Purchased the new 7400 series phones (4) last week. The phones look sleek and modern - black with chrome trim- the display is large 2" and can easily be read. The phone set up was very easy, takes about 4 sec per phone to register to the base unit. Answering machine - calls can be answered from any phone, the blinking light on the phone tells you that a message has been left. Like the call block feature, you can add or delete whatever phone number is bothering you, they get a busy signal. Voice clarity is very good. Silent mode on the phone is great especially for late night calls -phone flashes but doesn't ring. ..Cons - Talking mode can be improved upon - talks in a cheap robotic voice - frequently mispronouces name.
Summary
So far, my wife and kids like the phone and friends have commented on the modern look of the phone. I have checked many Dect 6.0 phones and found that the Panasonic 7400 series phones have the most features. This allows you to have the best flexibility - in call answering.

Being that I wear two hearing aides, the interference-reduction technology is great!
I use closed caption and read lips---what a break it will be for me with the adjustable font sizing feature.
I am looking foward to this phone!

At 52, I and my family and friends love the Talking Caller ID...by the time you locate your reading glasses you take the chance of missing the call. Also, not wanting to get up and walk over to the phone is a great convenience!
