Rumors emerged again Thursday that Apple was looking at soon bringing the iPhone to a second, non-AT&T domestic carrier. But this time, the purported carrier is not Verizon but T-Mobile.

According to AppleInsider.com, citing Cult of Mac, Apple and T-Mobile are in "advanced talks" to bring the device to T-Mobile as soon as this fall. Cult of Mac sited a highly-placed T-Mobile source.

Bloomberg News had reported last month that the iPhone was likely to arrive on Verizon Wireless in early 2011.

Is the main reason the Droid X and Verizon?

The timing may seem like it, but my understanding is that hardware compatibility probably has more to do with the iPhone not being on Verizon than any sort of competitive animosity. The article on this from the 7/22 Today in CE, has a theory on CDMA chips.

But even if that's not the reason, given Verizon's shortage of Droid X's and Incredibles, I don't think Apple is too worried about it right now.
