Toshiba, formerly a sworn enemy of the Blu-ray Disc format, recently debuted its first media player in the format, and this week unveiled its first-ever Blu-ray-equipped laptop.

The Qosmio X500 laptop is a multimedia laptop targeted at "hardcore gamers and digital content creators." The giant 18.4-inch screen runs Windows 7 and sports an Intel Core i7processor and NVIDIA's GeForce GTS 250M graphics. "Selected models," the company said, will include the Blu-ray ride.

The device will be released Oct. 22; pricing information not been disclosed.

Toshiba, which originally backed the HD DVD format that lost out to Blu-ray, had put that capability in Qosmio models.
