U.S. Sanctions Lebanese CE Company For Hezbollah Ties
The U.S. government this week sanctioned a Lebanon-based consumer electronics firm, claiming it purchased CE products in the United States and funneled support to Hezbollah.
The U.S. Department of Treasury has issued sanctions against Stars Group Holding, which allegedly bought electronics and helped the militant group Hezbollah for both military and surveillance purposes. The sanctions freeze all U.S. assets controlled by the company.
“With disturbing reach far beyond Lebanon, Hizballah’s extensive procurement networks exploit the international financial system to enhance its military capabilities in Syria and its terrorist activities worldwide,” Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen said in a statement.
“This global terrorist activity and expanding criminal network belie Hizballah’s claimed purpose as a national liberation movement. It is critical that countries throughout the world work together to combat this dangerous organization and sever it from sources of revenue and support.”
