Vizio Reclaims Top LCD Spot

Manufacturer led in market share in both the fourth quarter and the full year

Vizio once again claimed the #1 spot in LCD HDTV shipments in the fourth quarter of 2009 for the U.S., edging out Samsung, according to iSuppli's latest figures.

In the fourth quarter, Vizio was followed by Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and LG. Samsung had overtaken Vizio in the third quarter, after Vizio held the top spot for several quarters in a row.

Vizio also took the #1 spot for LCD in the year 2009 overall, with the next four manufacturers finishing in the same order as in the fourth quarter.

“2009 was a remarkable year on many fronts, we became the #1 shipper of LCD HDTV’s in the US and as an American Company we are proud U.S. consumers are choosing VIZIO over our foreign competitors,” Laynie Newsome, VIZIO Co-Founder and VP Sales & Marketing Communications, said as part of the announcement.

“In 2010 we are working hard to exceed our customer’s expectations with exciting new products like VIZIO Internet Apps, High Definition Blu-ray DVD Players, wireless Internet routers and Internet apps enabled entertainment systems."
