LCD Comeback Seen This Year

Worldwide shipments of LCD panels jumped 41.4 percent after nine straight months of decline, according to numbers released this week by iSuppli Corp. The gain, to 129.7 million units, was attributed to a drop in price and a rise in demand.

“On the demand side, strong sales in China spurred by a government stimulus program propped up sales in the first half,” Sweta Dash, senior director for LCD research at iSuppli, said as part of the announcement. “Meanwhile, notebook panel demand recovered in the second quarter and global LCD-TV sales remained strong.”

iSuppli predicts a “full recovery” in LCD demand in the second half of this year.
