Yale Smart Locks Now Apple HomeKit-Enabled
Yale Locks & Hardware announced today that their Assure Lock family will support Apple HomeKit this month, allowing users to lock and unlock their home by using the Apple Home app or Siri on a compatible Apple device. The Yale Secure app also enables the user to check the lock's battery, manage pin codes, lock status, and use other useful features.
One of the most interesting options this opens up is for homeowners to create "scenes" through Apple HomeKit, with which they can automate routine actions through a certain command, such as turning off the thermostat and locking the door once the user goes to bed.
Jason Williams, President of the ASSA ABLOY U.S. Residential Group that includes Yale Residential, stated that “We strive to constantly develop products that enhance our user’s everyday lives and we are extremely excited to continue this with the launch of our iM1 Network Module and to offer iPhone users the ability to integrate Yale locks into their connected home."
Initially, compatibility will be restricted to Yale's Assure Locks, one of which is pictured above. A network module that allows the lock to connect to the internet is available for purchase separately at Best Buy, Lowe’s SmartSpot Powered by B8ta stores, Lowes.com and P.C. Richard & Son.
