Dealerscope researched retailers in the U.S. and Canada—as well as hardware manufacturers selling direct to consumers—to devise its Top 101 registry. Information was gleaned from readily available sources, including SEC filings, corporate press releases, business databases, and local press reports, as well as direct outreach to consumer electronics retailers.

The merchants listed in Dealerscope’s registry of the Top 101 CE retailers in the United States and Canada sold $227.7 billion in consumer electronics in 2014, a modest 3.35 percent increase over the $220.32 billion earned the previous year. Relatively static sales, however, are not indicative of a static marketplace.
