Circuit City, Microsoft Announce Deal For Sales Tool

August 2008
Circuit City and Microsoft on Wednesday announced that the retail giant soon introduce a special tool for sales associates in certain stores- a Microsoft-produced application in a tablet PC that will help staff better assist customers.

Known as EDGE (Enhanced Digital Guide Experience), the tool will be carried by associates in the company’s The City stores, and will allow sales associates to access specific information and answer questions for customers while on the sales floor.

The announcement is the culmination of two years of testing, the companies said.

“With EDGE, sales associates can engage the guest, ask questions and input feedback for product recommendations that match the guest’s preferences and budget,” Circuit City’s vice president of new concepts, Brian Leach, said in a statement. “Because EDGE puts a wealth of information at our associates’ fingertips, we can hire from a broader talent pool and prepare them for the sales floor more quickly.”

Microsoft contributed to the development of EDGE, but they did not produce the application.
