The Web-based electronics and appliances retailer Etronics.com this week announced Assured Delivery, an optional service which will guarantee that buyers receive their orders. For a $2.99 per order fee, customers will be guaranteed a replacement product, in the event that their order is lost or damaged.

The company’s founder and CEO, Mayer Balser, said in a statement that Etronics is offering the deal because of the move towards more online purchasing. “Because of this,” he said, “we want to make the process streamlined so the consumer feels confident with every purchase.

Doesn't your credit card already protect you from having to deal with placing orders and not receiving products?

And doesn't the burden fall on the seller to replace lost or stolen product if it doesn't get to the buyer?

Am I mising something? I purchase something and then I am given the opportunity to pay an additional amount to make sure I actually receive what I bought and paid for. I should not have to pay extra to "feel confident with every purchase".
