What the 12-volt Industry Must Change: Part 3
February 11, 2010 From Sachs Report
All of us need to commend Amazon for reaching out to thousands of car audio enthusiasts last week. It was the single largest promotion of the 12-volt industry since CES. Their e-mail blast, showcasing a number of products, is exactly what the industry needs to do to raise awareness and generate interest. Thanks, Amazon, for getting the message. In addition to that message, and others I have presented the past few weeks, consider a few more as I continue to present 10 ideas that I think can help turn the ship around.Admittedly, my perspective is from a manufacturer background, and I shouldn’t need to remind you manufacturers need to make a profit. Not everything we sold was sold profitably. Over the years price compression in all categories has taken its toll on margins and gross profit. With that in mind, I also feel that manufacturers must give back to the industry and community. If everyone enjoyed playing the game of golf yet no one repaired any of his or her divots or ball marks, it would not be long before courses became unplayable. (I am writing this at the golf course, feeling guilty, thus the metaphor.)While at Pioneer, I started a number of programs designed to acknowledge the winners in our industry.  The ‘Give Back” award was one of personal pride as this was given nationally to the retailer that gave the most back to his community and marketplace.

Attitudes : Reasons for Hope
February 1, 2010 From Dealerscope
While traveling from meeting to meeting at this year's CES, I was picked up in a cab driven by Ali Bandbaz, who claimed he was in the 2000 Guinness World Records for balancing his brother, Massoud, on two 14.5-inch daggers using his teeth (sure enough he's on page 49 of the Millennium Edition under "Greatest Weight Balanced on a Knife").
