At 2013 CES, Direct Electronics' John Durbin showed how the Viper SmartStart app communicates with a car using a Bluetooth connection. The car's security system can be armed and disarmed, and the car can be remotely started using the smartphone. Response time is nearly instantaneous with the Bluetooth local connection.
