100 Million Tablet Shipments Expected This Year
The worldwide market for tablets is expected to pass 100 million this year, after 25 million units were sold in the April-to-June quarter. That's according to numbers released Thursday by research firm ABI.
Apple, in that three-month period, took 69 percent of the market, followed by Samsung (8.1 percent.)
“Most impressive about Apple’s 17.0 million tablet shipments in 2Q’2012 was it nearly matched 2010 total worldwide shipments of 17.3 million for all vendors,” Jeff Orr, senior practice director for mobile devices, said as part of the announcement.
