Flexible 12-Volt Dealers See Sales Increase
Matthew "Spot" Fulton, Breakers Mobile: If you had asked me in February, I would have been crying on the phone! Business has readjusted quite a bit. We were down 17 to 22 percent in January-February. But March has absolutely exploded. It's been extremely strong - equivalent to the previous year. I think some of it is all of the press about change, that the economy's going to get better. Also, lots of people did their taxes faster than before and got their refunds, and that has spurred March business.
David Powell, Precision Audio: We're up a bit. We invested in some new displays in December, and that has made a difference. We have a complete new interactive sound room display. We also spent a great deal of time focusing on the sales presentation. In the past we took the easy road and when a customer asked for a head unit, we sold them a head unit. Now, we point out that they may need to upgrade everything else they have, and focus on the total package. We ask, "What are you trying to do?" According to a car's age, they may need a radio but also speakers. We spend more time with a customer to find that out.
Charles Bellia, The Stereo Shop: Our 12-volt car business is about even with last year; home audio pulled our numbers down, but it was the big, custom car jobs that brought them up. We installed a lot of radios this year.
