Balancing Form and Function
By Tatyana Sinioukov
The 2001 International Housewares Show held in Chicago last January not only served for introductions of this year's lines by the major manufacturers, but also as proof that more appliances are becoming wired and are stepping into the new millennium with style and efficiency.
The new microwave ovens featured at the show boasted increased output power and a modern look updated for a contemporary kitchen. The air conditioners featured impressive energy efficiency ratings that exceeded the government standards, and some major appliances showed off their Internet access capability.
