2011 Hall of Fame: Leon Temiz, CEO of Electronics Expo
So, in Buffett-like fashion, when the recession hit, Expo adapted.
"We watched our expenses and inventory turns and watched productivity in every possible way we could. We focused on our core region, where we advertised, and controlled our growth. We didn't look at different marketplaces, but rather continued to make major reinvestments in our stores to make them more comfortable spaces and keep them updated. We also invested in our e-commerce site to drive customers into our stores."
Temiz resisted over-extension, despite some tempting real estate opportunities. His management style also reflects a kind of calm deliberation. "My main strength is in building a team. I'm very open-minded," he said. "I get input from everybody, from executives to our stock guys, to little kids. Then I get people to understand the vision, and make sure everybody does their part." DS
