3D Technology Awareness Has Grown
Consumer awareness of 3D display technologies, including LCD, plasma and Blu-ray, has grown significantly in recent months, NPD Group said in a report Monday.
According to the research firm's 3D 360º Monitor, 36 percent of consumers were aware of LCD 3D TV in February, up from 28 percent last September. In the same time frame, that number jumped from 21 percent to 32 percent for 3D plasma and 15 percent to 26 percent for 3D Blu-ray.
“Concerns about price and an aversion to 3D glasses both saw relative increases as inhibitors to adopting 3D televisions,” Ross Rubin, executive director of industry analysis at The NPD Group, said as part of the release of the numbers. “However, as prices and price premiums for 3D TV decline, glasses are becoming a more prominent inhibitor, and are poised to overtake price.”
