How Long Will Price Premiums Last On 3DTVs?
A few weeks back we asked a top CE retailer how long he thought price premiums would last on 3DTVs. “Count to 10,” he said. Here’s what executives from some of the major TV manufacturers say. Make sure to see the full roundtable in the July issue of Dealerscope.
Dealerscope: How long do you think premium prices on 3DTVs will last before they drop to commodity levels?
Bob Perry, senior vice president, Panasonic: In every manufacturer's lineup there's entry-level product that tends to be a little more aggressively priced. That has continued, and I think it will continue virtually forever. But in every manufacturer's lineup, including Panasonic's, we have our step and step-step products, which offer consumers more performance, capabilities and features and have a higher price-point. 3D is part of that step-up strategy, with 3DTV being the highest-performance type of televisions we build, as well as Blu-ray players, etc. I think that will continue for a long, long time.
