4K Penetration Seen Reaching 10 Percent in Five Years
The percentage of North American households equipped with Ultra HD/4K TV will cross 10 percent in 2018, according to a projection released Wednesday by ABI Research.
That percentage will reach 5 percent in 2017, as the research firm predicted that adoption will be slow.
“Unlike 3D, which required awkward glasses, 4K has the legs to become an industry norm," ABI's Sam Rosen said as part of the announcement. "This isn’t a sprint, however, and it will take time for the necessary infrastructure, installed base of devices, and content to come together before 4K becomes an integral part of how the typical TV household consumes video content."
