6th Avenue Electronics Launches Appliances and Gaming Divisions
6th Avenue Electronics will establish new appliance and gaming divisions within all of its 17 stores, including a new one planned for Pennsylvania, under a rollout that will begin immediately in its Wilmington, Del., store.
The appliance division will include an even mix of mid- to high-end kitchen and laundry products from most of the major appliance manufacturers, said Tom Galanis, 6th Ave.'s vice president of operations. The new appliance divisions will occupy between 6,000 and 10,000 square feet, depending on the store, and will focus on live displays and lifestyle vignettes. The company, which owns many of its own buildings, will also build additions to some stores to accommodate the new divisions, Galanis said.
The company has begun hiring to fill about 50 new positions to focus on appliances. It recently hired Tom Koch, formerly of Best Buy, to oversee the division, and Brant Howard, who will be in charge of sales, Galanis said.
