6th Ave. Focuses on Smartphones, Tablets
As part of its restructuring, 6th Avenue Electronics will expand into smartphones and tablet computing, under a plan that’s been in motion since before CES. The company hopes to begin selling the iPad in March.
This comes as the Springfield, N.J.-based retailer reduces its stores to five from nine and drops its major appliences, PC, gaming and tier-three businesses.
Vice president Tom Galanis acknowledges the smartphone and tablet categoies come with challenges. With smartphones in particular, he said, “No question, it’s going to bring traffic into the stores,” he said. “The question is: ‘Can you make a dollar doing it?’
