Group Calls For Staying Home on Black Friday
Retailers throughout the U.S. have spent the last few weeks brainstorming how to get customers into their stores on Black Friday. One group is doing all it can to keep them out.
A philanthropic group called GlobalGiving has scheduled the "Great American Sleep-In" for the day after Thanksgiving. The group is encouraging Americans to stay home on Friday and instead make a donation to one of a variety of charities. GlobalGiving even offers gift cards that can be presented and exchanged for donations.
"While Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy might sell out of that discounted DVD player by 9AM on Friday," the group said as part of its announcement of the effort, "GlobalGiving will never run out of opportunities for Americans to make a positive difference in the lives of others with as little as $10."
