More Charges For Accused Best Buy Scammers
A couple in the Chicago area that has already been charged with perpetuating a scam that defrauded Best Buy of more than $40 million has been hit by more charges.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Russell Adam Cole and Abby Rae Cole have been charged with tax evasion and conspiracy counts, both of which are federal, in connection with the scheme in which they defrauded the Minnesota-based CE retail giant. Authorities now say the Coles understated their incomes in filing tax returns.
The Coles' attorney told the newspaper that they will plead not guilty to the new charges.
Owners of a company vendor called The Chip Factory, the Coles allegedly swindled the money through a conspiracy in which they rigged supply auctions, submitted low bids, and later overcharged the company for parts. A company employee last year pled guilty to his part in the scheme.
