Opining On Audio
What are the hottest categories for audio right now? What seems to be selling well, and not so well?
Fabiano: Audio streaming is something people absolutely love. Music that way becomes not too device-dependent. When you put music on a server, the server is available for streaming to speakers, on your computer, at poolside on a laptop, or across town into your office. There are many more options, and they love the fact that music is no longer relegated to the living room.
Wexler: Real inexpensive audio has gone by the wayside, but that’s been the evolution of our company, in general, as we’ve upscaled. We have the salespeople focused on better product. It’s pretty balanced across the board, and we’re actually selling some two-channel stuff, and some turntables to go with it. Maybe it had to do with the holiday season, and people digging out their old albums. Part of it is that we put three or four different ones on display around the store, and it reminded people subliminally that they have a whole bunch of records in the basement, put away, so for somewhere between $200 and $500, they bought a turntable.
