Hi-Def CE Shipments Seen Tripling
It's been clear for awhile that high-definition is the way to go in consumer electronics and will be for awhile. A new study shows that shipments of all products compatible with HD- set-top boxes, DVD players, consoles, and more- will triple between last year and 2012 as HD becomes the main standard for video.
Global shipments are expected to rise from 68.9 million in 2008 to 202 million in 2012, when 52.9 percent of products in those products will be HD-capable (up from 21.6 percent four years earlier.)
“For the last 20 years, HD video has been the holy grail for consumer electronics OEMs, as well as for avid home theater fans around the world,” Randy Lawson, senior analyst for DTV and display electronics at iSuppli, said as part of the announcement.
