A Preview of Day 2 at CES 2016
Before we jump ahead to the second day of CES 2016 out here in Las Vegas, let’s take a moment to relive what happened on a fascinating and entertaining Day 1.
The morning started with a lively keynote delivered by Gary Shapiro (who, by the way, sat down with me on Tuesday to talk about all things CES and CTA, so be sure to give that a watch) talking about the directions the industry is heading. Gary then welcomed Netflix CEO Reed Hastings onto the stage, and Hastings ran through a number of interesting stats about the amount of hours of original content Netflix will produce in 2016 (600), the total hours streamed by Netflix users in the past year (42.5 billion, a.k.a. a lot of House of Cards), and how that’s grown over the past few years (up from less than a billion in 2009). He also made a major announcement regarding Netflix’s availability around the world: During the press conference, the company turned their service on in 130 new countries, brining their total to over 190 countries around the world.
Oh, Chelsea Handler, Will Arnett, Krysten Ritter, and Wagner Moura all made appearances to talk about their Netflix original series.
