A Reason to Visit
At an exciting show like CES, with technology spilling out of every corner, it can be hard to create excitement with a booth whose main product is made of paper, namely magazines. Sure, located in the Central Hall lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center, it’s a great place for our meetings and signing up subscribers, but that’s about it. This year, all of that changes. At the Consumer Technology Publishing Group booth we’re going to be doing something a little different to reflect the digital multimedia nature of our industry—we’re producing our own Web show.
When you stop by the booth you’ll notice we’ve set up a stage for conducting live interviews and product demonstrations, which we will be taping all day and posting on our Web site dealerscope.com. But you can watch the segments on plasma screens surrounding our booth and see it live, right there on the spot. We’ll have interviews with industry executives, product managers and retailers alike.
Why bother, you ask? Because the fact is, in today’s media-centric world it’s no longer enough to have one channel of communication (just like it may not be wise for a retailer to have just one channel of sales). Last year we began improving our Web site, relaunching it to be a better resource for our readers, with extra content such as daily news and reference guides. Video and podcasts are another important element, and we’ll be creating some of that content right at the show. It makes sense. More and more people are looking to the Web for information, in any format. In fact, I just read yesterday that studies show people under 24 years of age draw little distinction between virtual and non-virtual worlds when it comes to getting information.
