The Best of the Best
There are several rival tablets based on Google’s Android software now on the market, such as Blackberry’s Playbook, but none has the unalloyed sex appeal of the iPad 2, at least not yet. This time next year may be different.
Best Mobile Phone: HTC EVO 4G
The smartphone market definitely matured this year, and the harbinger of that change was the HTC EVO 4G introduced last summer by Sprint (now $150 with contract). With superior features and technology, it announced the rise of the Android phones that would later in the year eclipse the iPhone and become the dominant platform in the handset arena.
The $200 HTC EVO was the first true 4G phone in the United States, offering high-speed broadband Web browsing that’s two to four times faster than 3G service. It also included the option of sharing its connection by turning it into a Wi-Fi hotspot. Furthermore, it offered two-way video calls, an eight-megapixel camera, a huge 4.3-inch screen and the ability to stream high-definition videos.
