Accessories Roundtable- Putting Top Priority on Secondary Goods
Where does the internet fit in? Can accessories be effectively marketed and sold online?
Laumeister: If someone is going to buy a case, they often want to touch it and put their camera in it to see how it works, so that's a little bit of a harder sale online. But if you have a really good picture, and maybe they've seen it before, they're going to buy it. A battery on the other hand, is a battery. So they say, "This fits my camera and it's the same color. I'm happy." They want to see a picture of it, but they don't want to touch it necessarily.
On the internet, you can do a lot with pictures and descriptions, but if you're trying to sell somebody a case or a tripod, even with a picture, they can't see how big it is or how heavy it is—that's probably only going to sell in the store in a lot of cases.
