Audiovox/AR’s First Hi-Def PLC Video Transmission System
Audiovox has begun shipping under its Acoustic Research brand banner its first two-piece system that uses power line carrier (PLC) technology to transmit 1080p video and digital audio signals virtually wirelessly.
At the heart of the HDP100 HD Powerlink System ($399) are two 5”x 8”x 1-1/2” boxes – a transmitter and a wall-mountable receiver that fits behind a flat-panel TV mount. The boxes are tethered to source components and the TV via included HDMI cabling.
“We’re marketing this as a simple, single-room solution,” said Dan Crupi, senior product manager for audio and wireless products for Audiovox Accessories Corp., which sells the AR brand. “It’s not intended as a whole-house distribution system. But we were surprised at the CEDIA-type dealer reaction to it when we showed it at the CES,” said Crupi, citing several installers who said it held appeal as a solution for certain custom applications.
