Acquiring Minds Tweeter Makes a Big Deal Out of Being Small
As of this writing, the PC Connection/Cyberian Outpost deal was not complete, but should be by the time this article is published, according to Mark Galvin, CFO of PC Connection. Galvin said the 50/50 joint venture between Tweeter and Outpost has been very fruitful, and that the Tweeter partnership was one of the main reasons PC Connection was interested in Outpost. "We want to grow our relationship with Tweeter," he said. "It could get a lot larger than it is."
Miller added that the deal has spurred Tweeter to look into adding wireless and mobile electronics online, as well as installation services. The option to buy from Tweeter online is part of the company's overall strategy, which Miller said is to create a loyal customer for life.
Herschman added, "We do whatever it takes within reason to make the customer happy. If Jeff or any senior executive is on an important conference call, and there's a customer who's got a problem, we will stop what we're doing to take care of the customer. That's how we differentiate from the big box guys."
