After Reacquiring Itself, Withings is Back with a New Smartwatch
A little more than three months after reacquiring itself from Nokia, digital health brand Withings rolled out a new look and its first new product under the original brand. The Steel HR Sport is described as a multisport hybrid smartwatch that features heart rate monitoring, connected GPS tracking, Fitness Level analytics, and a 25-day battery life. The watch launches into a product portfolio that maintains a wealth of connected health devices like activity trackers, blood pressure monitors, thermometers, smart scales, and sleep tracking devices.
The Steel HR Sport, perhaps most notable, marks a return to the company’s foundation of producing digital health products. Original cofounder Eric Carreel bought back the business that he sold to Nokia Technologies in 2016, and in just a matter of months was able to come to market with an entirely new look and a new product to boot.
“With its advanced sport and health tracking capabilities, Steel HR Sport is a perfect example of how Withings is delivering against its original mission to help better manage health,” Carreel, CEO of Withings, said in a statement announcing the company’s new product. “The public reaction to the return of Withings is extraordinary and renews my belief that elegantly designed devices with health tracking abilities can dramatically improve individual and society’s health."
