Alpine Electronics Begins Shipping Apple CarPlay System for Jeep Wrangler
Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., is now shipping a 9-inch Apple CarPlay system for Jeep Wranglers model year 2011 and up. The i109-WRA features the largest touchscreen system in the aftermarket for Apple CarPlay, according to Alpine Electronics.
“The i109-WRA is our first Restyle Dash System compatible with Apple CarPlay,” Steve Crawford, vice president and general manager, aftermarket business unit, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., said in a statement. “We are excited to deliver the popular Apple CarPlay platform to Jeep Wrangler owners through our unique 9-inch screen system.”
As it stands, Apple CarPlay is not a factory option for the Jeep Wrangler, and the same goes with the 9-inch touchscreen display. The i109-WRA has a WVGA screen with a display resolution of 800x400, Alpine said. The dash bezel replaces the entire Jeep Wrangler OEM radio area, creating a factory-like fit and finish that surrounds the touchscreen, according to Alpine. Dedicated push buttons on the bezel give the user direct access to functions like the phone, music, and maps through Apple CarPlay. And those same features can be accessed through Siri voice control.
